How To Give

Individuals

'Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.'
Margaret Mead

Giving to the Community Foundation for Surrey is designed to be as simple as possible. We are here to advise at all times so do feel free to contact our Executive Director Wendy Varcoe if you would like to discuss

There are several different giving options:

1. Set up a Named Fund

If you have over £10,000 to donate you can set up your own individual or family fund. We can do all of the initial set up for you through to managing the on-going administration and grant distribution. All you need to do is:

2. Contribute to one of our specific funds.

We have a number of individual funds which act as pots of pooled resources to benefit voluntary and charitable groups throughout the whole of Surrey. Click onto a fund of interest to you to find out more.

3. Donate a gift of shares or assets

We are able to accept all kinds of gifts including shares and assets such as property. This is a really tax efficient way of giving where the benefit to the charity may be many times more than the cost to the donor. Individuals can reclaim income tax relief of up to 40% of the full market value of the quoted shares and be exempt from any capital gains.

4. Donate through your tax return

Self assessment tax payers can nominate a charity to benefit from all or a part of any tax rebate due to them. Our charity number is 1111600 and can be quoted on your tax return.

5. Leave a legacy through your Will

With your Will you can not only provide for your family's future, but also support some of the local causes you really care about. A legacy is the greatest opportunity most people have to make a really substantial gift to charity. Leaving a legacy to the Community Foundation, however small, could help to improve the lives of those in your community for years to come.
There are numerous ways of leaving a gift to the fund in your Will.  Care should be taken to ensure that your Will is drafted properly to give you the confidence that what you want to happen does happen.
Through your Will you can leave a particular item, a specific sum of money, a share of your estate or even establish a personal fund.
