Horsleys Sports Club donates £5,000 to the Horsleys Fund
The Horsleys Community Fund, which was established to support community and voluntary groups in East and West Horsley, received a welcome boost this week as the Horsleys Sports Club made a £5,000 donation towards its work.
The Horsley Community Fund is gradually building a permanent fund which aims to support community needs. As the fund grows, the interest will be awarded in grants, enabling it to help residents and charitable groups from both East and West Horsley. It was established in partnership with the Community Foundation for Surrey, a charitable trust which aims to inspire more giving in Surrey.
Clare Mathias, Chairman of the Horsleys Community Fund, who accepted the cheque on behalf of the Fund says, “We are immensely grateful to the Horsley Sports Club for this generous donation which will help us towards our initial target of a £150,000 Fund to support need in the community. This Fund is a fantastic way for everyone in the villages to work together. As the economic picture gets tougher we know that many groups will struggle to find funding for their work. Our Fund will enable us to help support Horsley groups, not just now but into the future.”
The Horsley Sports Club is a family orientated tennis and cricket club based in East Horsley. John Thornton, Chairman, says, “As a members club embedded in the Horsleys, which is used by a large number of local residents, we feel that the Horsleys Community Fund is an important long term initiative to help those in our community and organisations who do so much to provide support to others. We are delighted to be able to make this donation which, we hope, will help to make a difference to many local groups for years to come.”
The Horsleys Community Fund is one of a number of funds managed by the Community Foundation for Surrey. These funds, which are established by individuals, families, communities and companies, have enabled the Community Foundation to support over 700 charitable groups with £2 million grant awards since it started five years ago.
