Allianz Supporting Disability Charity in Guildford
Local charity Us in a Bus has received a welcome financial boost from Allianz, through their fund managed by the Community Foundation for Surrey. Us in a Bus received an award of £2,771 to go towards their work in the Guildford area with people with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) who experience difficulty communicating and connecting with others.
The grant will support the charity's weekly sessions that assist clients in developing interaction and communication methods. To those attending, the sessions act as a vital step towards connecting with others, and in turn help to break down the isolation that comes with the difficulty to express oneself and communicate.
Laura Blake from Us in a Bus said: 'This generous grant from Allianz has made a huge difference to Us in a Bus and the people we work with. It's wonderful to see the impact that Us in a Bus sessions can have on people's lives as they begin to relate to others and experience different ways of expressing themselves. The support provided by Allianz means that we can continue to provide our "hands on" service in the Guildford area where we have been operating for nearly 15 years'
Over the last year, the Allianz Fund managed by the Community Foundation for Surrey has supported projects in Guildford, Woking and the surrounding areas.
Valerie Robinson, Community Affairs Adviser at Allianz said: "Allianz has a long association with Us in a Bus and we are delighted that we have been able to continue our support with this grant. Us in a Bus makes a real difference to the lives of many local people with profound multiple learning disabilities. This donation will help their specially trained Interaction Practitioners to visit people in their community homes and provide invaluable communication sessions."
The Community Foundation for Surrey was established four years ago, aiming to inspire local giving for local needs. The Community Foundation works with both donors who want to give something back to their local communities and the charities and voluntary groups providing vital services for local people. Individuals, families and companies can establish a fund within the Community Foundation which supports a growing programme of grant-making to communities across Surrey.
Professor Patrick Dowling, Chairman of the Community Foundation for Surrey said:
"I am delighted that Allianz has chosen to support local communities in Surrey through the Community Foundation. Community Foundations help to connect people and businesses with their local communities. I hope this will encourage more companies to establish a fund to benefit the communities in which they work."
