Queen Mary SailabilityQueen Mary Sailability

Queen Mary Sailability's role is to encourage and support people with disabilities to take up the sport of sailing. Staffed by volunteers the group meets every Thursday and caters for a wide variety of people with disabilities, from those having their first taster to paralympic competitors. However safety improvements were needed on the boats so that they are secure for both children and adults with severe learning difficulties.

A £2,250 grant from the Surrey Sports Fund has enabled 50 young people with severe learning difficulties and 12 adults with disabilities to enjoy the opportunity to experience sailing.

Crest Cancer InformationCrest Cancer Information and Support, Staines

CREST Cancer Information and Support in Staines bridges the gap between home and hospital and enhances the quality of life for people affected by cancer. Their twice yearly relaxation days are hugely popular and enable members (patients and carers) to have a real break from the day to day routine, but also a chance to come into contact with other people and services which they would not normally have access to. Contact with other people is crucial to their wellbeing and the days give them a morale boost, leaving them less stressed and more relaxed.

A £4,925 Grassroots Grant was able to support the costs of relaxation days giving people taster sessions of complementary therapies which relieve pain, such as reflexology and massage, as well as other relaxing workshops like flower arranging and card making. In total 100 people benefited from the day.
