Opportunities, Farnham
Opportunities is a not- for -profit community project which provides vital support for single parents from Sandy Hill, a listed area of deprivation on the outskirts of Farnham. The group operates from a community bungalow and offers classes in essential skills such as numeracy, literacy and IT. It also provides a centre for the community and is a catalyst for bringing local residents together, to support each other.
The Hazelhurst Fund has supported the project over the last 3 years. A further grant of £6,498 has been awarded this year to help Opportunities continue their work supporting and mentoring students, teaching them new skills and building their confidence and self-esteem, with a view to opening up future opportunities for a better life for themselves and their families.
Weyside Smilers, Godalming

The Weyside Smilers is a support group in Godalming for people with mental health issues. The group meets weekly and supports many vulnerable adults who benefit from the opportunity to learn life skills and make friends. The friendly and supportive environment enables members to develop skills which will help them live independently in their community.
A £5,000 Grassroots grant has helped the group with their running costs, enabling members to enjoy a number of activities that broaden horizons and encourage self esteem and confidence.
